FABIG Members: Log-in to access all FABIG resources

SUMMARY

Guidance intended to provide a basic understanding of what is meant by a permit-to-work system with advice that is meant to be of a general - but not exhaustive - nature.Designed to assist in three basic ways: enable assessment of current permit systems against principles proposed in this document; guidance on harmonisation of terminology particularly to assist those who travel from site to site; to enable development of a new system based on current good practice.Although centred around established paper systems, the advice accounts, where possible, for newer electric methods. Explores pertinent issues such as training, competence standards, work planning, risk assessment, monitoring, audits and system reviews. With illustrations, flow-charts and easy-glace information tables.

This report and the work it describes were funded by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Its contents, including any opinions and/or conclusions expressed, are those of the author(s) alone and do not necessarily reflect HSE policy
