SUMMARY

An accidental hydrocarbon relese on an offshore platform can generate high intensity noise. This noise may induce vibration in surrounding equipment. Such vibration could result in equipment damage which could increase the severity of an accident. This report examines the impact of noise on platform structures in order to assess its relevance to the overall consequences of the accident.

This report and the work it describes were funded by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Its contents, including any opinions and/or conclusions expressed, are those of the author(s) alone and do not necessarily reflect HSE policy
