FABIG Members: Log-in to access all FABIG resources

Speaker(s): Geoff Chamberlain

Organisation(s): Waverton Consultancy

Duration: 57 min

SUMMARY

This webinar covers the hazards posed by jet and pool fires from ignited releases of oil, LPG and gas. The consequences of uncontrolled fires were tragically highlighted by the Piper Alpha disaster and the threats to workers and public posed by BLEVEs. Thus, considerable research has explored the size and intensity of such fires with the aim of designing effective counter measures to limit the extent of escalation that might occur in industrial plant. This Webinar discusses experimental measurements of the flame properties, such as internal heat flux and flame temperatures of open and confined fires, and how these can be used to define fire protection systems.
