SUMMARY

This Technical Note has been prepared as a 'simple to use' guide to assist the awareness and implementation of the Human Factors in the design and operation of oil and gas facilities both onshore and offshore.

This Technical Note supports FABIG members by:

  • Providing a summary of the reasons for and benefits of carrying out Human Factors studies
  • Providing a quick reference source for key guides and standards that are available in the public domain
  • Providing guidance on the tools and methodologies used in Human Factors studies and how they might be incorporated into design and operations
  • Providing preliminary guidance on how to determine which of the Human Factors tools is the most appropriate to use under different circumstances
  • Describing the role of Human Factors studies within risk management and in enhancing of operability in the onshore and offshore process industries.
