Tongji University

We are very pleased to welcome Tongji University into FABIG Membership.

Company overview:

"Tongji University, established in 1907, is one of China's most prestigious and comprehensive universities. Located in Shanghai, it is renowned for its strong academic disciplines, especially in engineering, architecture, and urban planning. Notably, the established Structural Fire Safety Laboratory at Tongji University is a state-of-the-art facility equipped with specialized devices for real fire and jet fire testing, being capable of simulating real fire scenarios with a maximum heat release rate of 22.5 MW and test the resistance of materials and structures under jet fire conditions. Tongji University also has impact facilities with a maximum loading mass of 200kg, maximum speed of 200m/s and impact energy 4MJ. These devices allow for comprehensive testing of structural fire and blast behavior under extreme conditions, making the laboratory an essential resource for advancing fire and blast safety research. 

Within Tongji University, there is a large research group working on hazard mitigation in civil engineering structures and infrastructural facilities, especially for fire and explosion. Research interests include but are not limited to: 

• Temperature field considering real fire scenarios and jet fire scenarios; 
• Blast load description for complicated environments, such as: TNT blast in confined spaces, arc fault explosion for power transformer; 
• Mechanical behavior of materials and structures considering temperature effect, strain rate effect and temperature-strain rate coupled effect, 
• Fire and blast safety design of building structures and infrastructures; 
• Blast behavior of buildings façade; 
• AI application in fire/blast safety of buildings and infrastructures."
