SUMMARY
LASTFIRE is an industry group of international oil and fuel storage companies working together to develop best practice in storage tank fire hazard management. LASTFIRE has recognised the need to transition from fluorosurfactant based firefighting foams, which have been the industry standard for so long, and is at the forefront of developing guidance and data to enable foam users to make this transition in a cost-effective and sustainable manner. The work of LASTFIRE has included carrying out the most extensive series of large-scale hydrocarbon fire testing of foams for more than 40 years as well as the development of best practice assurance procedures in a format suitable for self-assessment.
This presentation describes the work to date, the remaining gaps in knowledge and the plans to complete the necessary work. LASTFIRE’s recent production of a training video related to crude oil boilovers is also mentioned.
